Jet Airways announces Manchester-Mumbai flights

Indian carrier Jet Airways has announced it will launch non-stop flights between Manchester and Mumbai starting 5 November.

The new service will operate on Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, with flights departing Manchester’s Terminal 2 at 0935 and landing at Mumbai Terminal 2 at 0040 local time. Return flights leave Mumbai at 0230 and arrive in Manchester at 0755 local time.

This will be Jet Airways’ fifth non-stop service between the UK and India, making it the largest carrier flying to Mumbai from Britain. It will provide travellers with connectivity to nearly 35 domestic destinations within India, including Delhi, Jaipur and Chennai.

Flights will be operated by an A330-200 aircraft comprising 254 seats in total, including 18 Premier seats with extra legroom and Jet Airways’ ‘Dine Anytime’ meal concept.

Last year, Jet Airways increased the frequency of its Mumbai flights from Heathrow.

Vinay Dube, CEO of Jet Airways, commented: “We are extremely pleased to begin a new chapter in our decade-long relationship with the United Kingdom. The new service will bring Manchester into our global network, reinforcing our global footprint, as well as expanding the choice of connectivity to and from the UK for our guests...”

Andrew Cowan, CEO of Manchester airport, added: “Securing a direct service to one of India’s major cities is the product of a lot of hard work over a long period of time to forge closer ties between Manchester and this globally significant economy. Direct connectivity to the world’s most important markets is key to creating a prosperous and internationally competitive Northern economy, as well as helping to attract Indian visitors and investors to the North.”

This is the second big international destination announcement for Manchester this week, with Ethiopian Airlines announcing flights to Addis Ababa starting this December.
