Japan Airlines (JAL) is to introduce a premium economy cabin on routes from London this December.
The airline ” that also recently unveiled plans to include a first class service on domestic Japanese services ” will also roll out the premium cabin on routes to Tokyo from Frankfurt and Paris during 2008.
Premium economy ” developed that airline says in response to consumer demand - will be JAL”s fourth cabin on board its Boeing 777-300ER that also features first class, Executive Class Season and economy.
The upgraded section will be located in a dedicated on-board cabin, with seats configured 2x4x2 with a total of 44 available on routes operated by 777-300ER aircraft and 40 with those on -200ER machines.
Featuring 38” pitch and a 120 degree recline, JAL claims that its seats will have 20% more legroom than its economy class and will be capable of accommodating a fully-opened A4 size laptop.
Premium economy travellers will also receive the same amenity kit available in business class, while being offered Champagne, instant noodles and ice cream during the flight.
Interestingly, as well as having dedicated check-in counters at Narita airport, premium economy passengers can use the JAL Sakura lounge in Tokyo.
The carrier adds that it intends to introduce new international first and business class seats next year.
