This is TT bike racing legend Richard ”Milky” Quayle ” also known as the Milky Bar Kid ” who was recently tempted out of retirement to race this aircraft (a wheeze by Manx2.com to celebrate its new route from East Midlands Airport to the Isle of Man).
Manx2.com obviously thought it would be fun to race somebody from the island (Milky) on something relating to the island (a TT bike) and something it could beat.
And it all went swimmingly until the airstrip ran out, at which point the plane took off and the Milky Bar Kid shot into the sea.
No, sensibly the race was held in safely-landlocked Leicestershire, at East Midlands Airport. For those interested, Milky rides an NCT Racing Van Fit 1000cc Yamaha, and the aircraft is a Metroliner.
If you”re going to come out of retirement though, don”t bite off more than you can chew ” the Kid should have asked Kevin Keegan.
