Can you get up on the wrong side of bed? According to three ”boffins” called in by Premier Inn to analyse the situation, yes. Get out on the right side, and you'll be doomed to failure, lose your job, or maybe just pick up a parking ticket.
The correct answer is the left is right. Seems obvious with hindsight, doesn't it?
But why? The chain's Feng Shui boff, Jan Cisek, explains: ”By getting out of bed on the left side, you direct positive energy into the corresponding areas of your life” (according to the ancient Chinese practice of tidying your bedroom, left is associated with family, health, money and power). Mind you, if your partner sleeps on the left, be careful when rolling all that positive energy over him/her.
Boff no.2 ”a psychologist ” backs up the Feng Shui with the news that if you hop out of bed on the left, that simultaneously kick starts the left side of your brain. That's good news again, being the logical half of our heads: ”The right side of the brain is responsible for emotions like fear and stress, which only dilute your potential for having a positive experience,” says motivation expert Pete Cohen.
If you were reckless enough to arise on the right on the morning you read this (you obviously wouldn't be foolish enough to do so ever again AFTER you read this) then DON'T PANIC. Keep calm. Boff no.3 ” the only doctor among them ” has the remedy: fall asleep and start again.
”By taking a power nap or going into a meditative state for 20 minutes you can start your day over feeling more relaxed and calm,” says Dr Chris Alford.
Just don't get up on the right again. D”oh!
