Spanish carrier Iberia is expanding its short-haul schedule for summer 2026, as well as adding a new route to Mexico.
The IAG-owned airline will introduce two new European routes from its Madrid base to the Romanian capital Bucharest and Tivat in Montenegro next summer.
Both routes will operate twice per week with the Bucharest service running from 3 June to 30 September. Flights from Madrid to Tivat will run from 18 July to 15 September.
Iberia will also launch a service from Madrid to Monterrey in Mexico from 2 June 2026, with flights on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday using Airbus A330-200 aircraft equipped with economy and business class cabins.
The airline already operates three daily flights from Madrid to Mexico City. Iberia said it also plans to continue to offer the Madrid-Monterrey service into the following winter 2026-27 season.
As well as the new routes, Iberia plans to increase frequencies from Madrid to “strategic” destinations such as Milan, Athens and Nice in summer 2026.
Iberia’s services between Madrid and Milan will be bolstered by an extra two weekly flights, taking the total up to 44 per week next summer. Meanwhile Madrid-Athens capacity will increase to 16 flights per week in April, May and October and rise to a maximum of 29 weekly flights in the peak month of August.
The airline’s Madrid-Nice route will see another three weekly flights added in summer 2026, taking the total up to 24 per week.
Iberia is expanding its transatlantic network this coming winter with new flights from Madrid to Orlando in Florida, as well as services to Recife and Fortaleza in Brazil.
