No-frills carrier Easyjet is unlikely ever to consider flying out of London's Heathrow airport, the airline's CEO Carolyn McCall has said.
Speaking at the ITM Intelligence Conference, McCall said Easyjet knows what it does well, and intends to continue in the same vein.
“Easyjet is really good at point-to-point, quick turn-around, high efficiency services,” she said.
McCall said there is plenty of opportunity for growth in Europe, especially among business travellers flying point-to-point, who represent between 25% and 30% of the European market.
“We are trying to build the preferred European airline,” she said, by concentrating on providing a good service at convenient times from primary airports.
Expansion outside Europe is also unlikely, said McCall: “The economics low-cost carriers can provide diminish on long-haul routes.
“Egypt, Morocco and Jordan are at the edges of what we can do.”
Maintaining a lower cost of flying on all routes will prove challenging if the fuel prices remain at the current high prices, added McCall.
“All [ticket] prices must rise,” she said, as the price of oil is 50% higher this year than it was last year.
