Flights to and from Greece are expected to see major disruption on Wednesday (9 April) as air traffic controllers join another 24-hour general strike.
Members of unions across the country are due to walk out as part of a dispute over wages, collective bargaining agreements and the rising cost of living.
The Greek Air Traffic Controllers’ Association said its members would only handle medical, search, rescue and humanitarian aid services, as well as military flights during the 24-hour strike period.
The country’s main airport, Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos, said in a statement that no flights will operate to or from the airport between 00.00 and 23.59 on 9 April.
Sister airlines Aegean and Olympic Air said it was offering passengers due to fly on 9 April “the flexibility to change their tickets without any reissue fee and fare difference or cancel their booking and receive a credit voucher for future use”.
Greek unions held a similar one-day strike in February, which caused the cancellation of most flights in the country on that day.
