Kiev is the latest destination to be added to Germanwings' portfolio of routes: from 16 May 2009 the low-cost airline will be flying to the Ukrainian capital three times a week from Cologne/Bonn, extending its network of routes to include one of Europe's most attractive and historic cities. The new connection can be booked as of midday on Wednesday 04 March 2009 at www.germanwings.com.
Not just attractive to private and business passengers from the Nordrhein-Westfalen region: flights with Germanwings to Kiev can also be booked from Berlin-Schönefeld, Munich, London-Stansted, Budapest, Zurich and Vienna airports, as a transfer connection with a short wait at Cologne/Bonn.
Germanwings flies to Kiev on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with a modern Airbus A319. Flights depart from the Rhine just after 11:00 hrs and arrive in Kiev at around 15:00 hrs. The return flight leaves the Ukrainian metropolis one hour later and, depending on the day of the flight, arrives at Cologne/Bonn at around 17:30 or 17:45 hrs.
Situated on both banks of Dnieper, which provides delightful views, the city holds a special charm, offering attractions of gargantuan proportions: for example, the famous Mother-Motherland statue at the National Museum is 108 metres high, six metres higher than New York's Statue of Liberty.
Because of its historical importance, Kiev is also called "the mother of all Russian cities". St Sophia's cathedral, designated a UNESCO world heritage site, St Andrew's and St Vladimir's cathedrals, the Golden Gate and the Kijewo-Petscherska Lawra monastery of the caves are just a few of the cultural highlights which the city has to offer.
Germanwings is celebrating the launch of its new connection with the Ukrainian metropolis with a fantastic special offer, which also applies to other selected European and domestic routes: from midday on Wednesday 4 March 2009, 200,000 low-cost tickets starting at 19.99 euros (all-inclusive) will be released for booking at www.germanwings.com. The ticket offer runs until midnight on Sunday 8 March 2009, and applies to flights during the period between 16 March and 19 May 2009.
