Flybe will run three services every weekday from Newcastle to Gatwick on 30 March, the day after Jet2.com pulls out of the route.
Passengers booked on the service after that date can transfer to Flybe at no additional cost.
Lead-in fares are ”21.99 one-way including taxes and charges, and flights can be booked from today at flybe.com.
”We recognise the strategic importance of this key route to the capital and are pleased to be in a position to step in and maintain this lifeline service for the people of Newcastle and the North East,” said Flybe chief commercial officer, Mike Rutter. ”Indeed, we purchased these Gatwick slots in the teeth of opposition from other carriers who wanted to use those slots to serve European destinations, not Newcastle.”
Flights take 1hr30mins, depart Newcastle at 06:25, 13:20 and 17:05 and leave London at 08:30, 15:15 and 19:05. There is a Saturday morning rotation and one on Sunday evening.

And what”s more, our state-of-the-art aircraft will lead to a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of this service.”
Rutter also said Flybe will start direct routes from Newcastle to Aberdeen six days a week from 30 March.
