A strike by Finnair cabin crew, due to start today (November 30), is likely to hit the airline’s annual results.
The warning came from airline officials as members of the cabin crew union SLSY were due to stop work today.
Further talks between the two sides have been arranged for later today.
The dispute is over the airline’s plan to cut rest time between long haul flights from 36 hours to 24 hours.
Thelma Akers, chair of the SLSY, said long haul flight involved working during nights and coping with time differences.
But a statement from the Finnish national carrier said the carrier would suffer “significant earnings losses…due to a loss of bookings in the period during and surrounding the strike.”
It estimated the loss to be €2-2.5m per day which could push Finnair’s figures into deficit for the year.
In the first nine months of its financial year, Finnair made an operational profit of €2m.
It said in its statement that profit guidance in August indicated a surplus for the final quarter “so the full-year operational result at that time was expected to be a profit.
