The Finnish national carrier has revealed a new-look livery, after a €10 million project to “streamline and freshen” the airline’s identity.
The new livery will be seen on all of Finnair's fleet by 2013, although the update of all long-haul aircraft will be complete by the end of 2011.
The look and feel of the new logo has been developed from Finnair’s current branding. Bolder than the existing logo, it covers more of the aircraft, with larger lettering.
In a statement, the airline said of its new look: “The blue and white colours has been preserved, but the modern look is lighter than before, with white and silver complementing the distinguished dark blue of the logo.”
Finnair hopes its new look will make the airline more appealing for travellers flying between Europe and Asia.
The Finnish airline’s president and CEO Mika Vehvilainen, said: “Finnair’s growth will come mainly from Europe-Asia traffic.
“We have studied our level of recognition in the Asian market. Success in this highly competitive international market requires that we stand out positively both externally and in terms of service content.”
The launch of Finnair’s new look comes little more than a week after the end of a 10-day strike over staffing levels, thought to have cost the airline around €20 million.
