A new Airbus 319 delivered to Easyjet this week has been named after captain James Whalley, who died in a tragic skiing accident in January.
The 32-year-old, who was killed by an avalanche while on holiday in France, was one of Easyjet’s youngest captains.
The pilot’s family, friends and colleagues attended the naming ceremony at Gatwick airport today, before the new aircraft took its first commercial flight.
Carolyn McCall, Easyjet’s CEO, said Whalley’s colleagues at Gatwick had been “united in their belief” that his life deserved honouring.
“It is with great pride that we recognise James’s remarkable professionalism, dedication and popularity at easyJet,” she said.
“We are pleased that we have been able to celebrate James’s life through the naming of the newest aircraft in our fleet.”
