EasyJet is to operate out of Birmingham Airport for the first time with the introduction in December of two ski routes.
A new daily service to Geneva will commence on 14 December followed by a twice-weekly operation to Grenoble on 22 December. The addition of Birmingham takes the number of easyJet airports in Europe up to 79 including 13 in the UK. No decision has yet been taken as to whether the flights will continue all year round.
In addition easyJet is also expanding its ski services from Bournemouth Airport, with a route to Grenoble. This new operation commences on 13 December and is in addition to the current winter service to Geneva.
These three new flights will bring the total number of routes served by easyJet to 300 for the first time.
UK regional general manager, David Osborne, commented: ”EasyJet”s expansion from Birmingham International Airport is great news for skiers from the Midlands, giving them more choice and a brand new service to Grenoble. With the daily service to Geneva and twice-weekly flight to Grenoble they now have the opportunity to fly to the major ski gateways for the French and Swiss Alps.
”Our expansion in Birmingham reflects our commitment to growth across the UK and we recognise the strong demand for low-fares with convenience and Birmingham's great potential."
Birmingham Airport business development director, Peter Vella, said: ”We”re delighted to welcome easyJet to Birmingham and offer our passengers a brand new service to Grenoble and increased services to Geneva. We look forward to working with easyJet to make these routes a success and we hope this is the start of a growing presence at Birmingham.”
