Boeing’s next generation aircraft will not be delivered to launch customer ANA until late summer, the aircraft manufacturer has confirmed.
ANA was expecting to receive its first B787 Dreamliner earlier in 2011, but the date has moved back to the third quarter of this year.
Production of the new aircraft was put on hold last November, after an electrical fault caused a fire during a test flight.
Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the 787 program, said the revised timeline allows time for complete testing and certification of the 787.
“We’ve also restored some margin in the schedule to allow for any additional time that may be needed to complete certification activities,” he added.
The delay has already had an impact on Continental’s planned new routes for 2011.
The US airline was expecting its first Dreamliner in time for the launch of flights from Houston to Lagos and Auckland, but this has now been delayed until 2012.
The Houston-Auckland route would not be possible without the new B787.
The carrier was originally due to receive its first Dreamliner in the Spring of 2009.
