On Wednesday 1 August a Dornier 328 jet on a private charter by executive jet operator, IceJet, touched down at London City Airport (LCY) after a 2h 50m flight from Iceland. It is the largest VIP-style executive aircraft to have used the docklands airport.
Dornier 328, serial number 3220, has been modified for steep approach, flight level 35 operations and extended range capability by 328 Support Services GmbH in Oberpfaffenhofen (Germany). The aircraft came into LCY again on Sunday 5 August.
The IceJet Dornier features a luxurious interior consisting of eight club seats and six regular places. Further customisation includes the addition of walnut veneered cabinets, wardrobe, stowage and galley.
”We anticipate more demand for London City Airport,” commented operations director, senior first officer Jon Ingi Jonsson, who piloted the aircraft on its 5.5 degree approach to the airport.
”IceJet is the first 328 jet operator in the world certificated for steep approaches such as London City.”
Created in January 2006 as the German subsidiary of Southampton-based Corporate Jet Services Ltd, 328 Support Services GmbH holds the type certificate for the Dornier 328 jet and turboprop aircraft.
It provides worldwide support to a fleet in excess of 200 aircraft offering full maintenance and engineering work, customer support, spare parts and technical services together with aircraft modernisation, retrofit and customisation work.
