Direct flights between the UK and China are set to resume after the UK government agreed a deal with the Chinese aviation regulator.
According to the British embassy in China, an agreement has been reached to allow two-way flights between the two countries to restart - Chinese airlines will initially offer these UK-China services.
China banned direct flights from the UK in December 2020 when a new more infectious strain of Covid-19 was discovered in the UK.
“This will end the ban on direct passenger services imposed by Chinese authorities during the Covid-19 pandemic,” said the British embassy in a statement on Twitter. “Transit for travellers will continue to be permitted in third countries.
“The initial services are being offered by Chinese airlines. Work is ongoing to resume routes for British airlines. Please follow announcements from airlines for routes, schedules and ticketing.”
