New route makes increased slot application urgent
London City Airport says that it is now officially full following today”s (10 October) news that CityJet is to serve Strasbourg from the central London location.
”We are at capacity with the recent introduction of Strasbourg, Vienna and Berlin,- a London City spokeswoman told ABTN.
”We have applied for an increase in movements from the current level of 80,000 to 120,000 by 2010 - hopefully that will be approved by the London Borough of Newham.”
Any increase of that magnitude would allow passenger numbers to soar to 3.9m, although the airport insists that opening hours would not change and that there would be no need for night flights.
CityJet services to Strasbourg ” operated on behalf of Air France ” will start thrice-daily from 28 October and will replace the existing twice-daily rotation from Gatwick currently operated by Regional Airlines ” itself a 100% subsidiary of Air France.
Using Dornier 328 aircraft configured in a two-class cabin, the Strasbourg route becomes CityJet”s tenth from London City and follows the news that the carrier would operate ScotAirways services to Edinburgh and Dundee from the airport.
Strasbourg is a key business destination as it is one of the seats of the European Parliament in tandem with Brussels.
