Cathay Pacific has filed an appeal against a European Commission (EC) fine of €57.1 million for being involved in an illegal cartel.
The Asian airline was found guilty in November 2010, along with ten other airlines, of conspiring on the prices it charged for the transport of cargo between December 1999 and February 2006.
A Cathay spokesperson said: “We believe we have good grounds for making these appeals.”
While litigation continues the airline is unable to provide further details on the grounds for appeal, the spokeperson added.
The 10 airlines involved in the illegal cartel, which included British Airways and Air France KLM, were fined a total of €800 million.
When it announced its decision last November, the EC said that when deciding the amount each airline should pay, it took into account “the sales of the companies involved, the very serious nature of the infringement, the EEA-wide scope of the cartel and its duration”.
