Cathay Pacific is boosting its flights between Hong Kong and Madrid, as well as adding new codeshares with Iberia to Latin America.
The carrier announced that it will add three more weekly flights between its home base and the Spanish capital from 25 October, which will take it up to a daily service. Cathay has been operating the route since 2016 with four flights per week.
Cathay said these additional flights on Monday, Thursday and Saturday would operate on a “staggered” schedule and would give passengers the option of a late-night departure from Madrid.
The airline added that the extra Madrid-Hong Kong services were designed to support new codeshare deals covering Iberia’s flights from Madrid to Fortaleza and Recife in Brazil, Buenos Aires in Argentina and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Cathay and Iberia are both members of the Oneworld alliance.
Lavinia Lau, Cathay’s chief customer and commercial officer, said: “We are delighted to welcome these new destinations in Latin America to our codeshare network. Furthermore, by increasing our Madrid service to daily, we are reinforcing our position as the only airline offering non-stop connectivity between Hong Kong and Spain."
Cathay already has codeshares with other airlines to six destinations in Latin America through hubs in Europe, North America and the Pacific region. The destinations covered are Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in Brazil, Mexico City and Guadalajara in Mexico, Lima in Peru and Santiago in Chile.
