Cathay Pacific has signed a contract with Airbus for another eight A330 aircraft, to be delivered by the end of 2012.
The Hong Kong-based carrier ” together with sister airline Dragonair - is the world”s largest operator of A330-300s, with 45 currently in service across its international route network, and this latest order set to bring the total to 56.
”This is another significant development for the group as we continue expanding our regional and long-haul fleets to further strengthen Hong Kong”s position as a leading international aviation hub,” said Cathay Pacific chief executive, Tony Tyler.
Cathay Pacific operates its A330 fleet on routes from Hong Kong to cities including Sydney, Delhi, Tokyo and Beijing.
”To receive a repeat order from Cathay Pacific is an endorsement of the popularity of the A330,” said Airbus chief operating officer, John Leahy. ”Its decision is a clear affirmation of the aircraft”s benefits and its suitability for traffic growth across the Asia Pacific region.”
