Carlisle Lake District airport is making final preparations ahead of its scheduled opening on 4 July, holding a check-in training session for staff.
Security and passenger service agents worked through the bespoke IT systems used by Loganair, which will operate the first commercial flights to the airport since 1993, as well as customer service-related procedures and security measures.
Carlisle airport, which is owned and operated by Stobart Group, has struck an agreement with Loganair to launch flights to and from Southend, Belfast City and Dublin. Services will be operated by a 33-seat Saab 340B aircraft.
The airport was originally meant to open in June 2018, but the launch of flights was delayed twice due to a shortage of air traffic control staff.
Kate Willard, director of partnership development for Stobart Group, said: “We were delighted to have the Loganair team come to the airport to conduct this essential training with our hard-working security and passenger service agents. It goes to show how closely we are working with Loganair ahead of commercial flights launching on Thursday, 4 July. Like our sister airport, London Southend airport, we want to champion customer service.”
A spokesperson for Loganair added: “With less than a month until our first services touch down on the tarmac of Carlisle Lake District airport, we’re undertaking an intense programme of preparations ahead of the launch. Congratulations to the team at the airport for completing the training and we’re very much looking forward to the big day.”
