CAA data reveals least punctual airlines

Press Association analysis of data from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has revealed the least punctual airlines operating from UK airports.

Low-cost carrier Wizz Air came in as the least punctual of 44 airlines included in the analysis, with average delays of 23 minutes in 2017.

Fellow budget airline Norwegian had the second-worst on-time performance with delays of 21.7 minutes, followed by Vueling and Thomas Cook at 21.1 minutes, BMI at 21.1 minutes, Aurigny Air Services at 20.1 minutes and Eurowings at 19.2 minutes.

British Airways had the best performance of UK airlines included in the research, with average delays of 11.5 minutes.

Other carriers’ average delays include Easyjet (18.2 minutes), Loganair (16.2 minutes), Ryanair (15.6 minutes), Flybe (14.1 minutes) and Virgin Atlantic (13.3 minutes).

Turkish Airlines (19.2 minutes), Air Portugal (19.1 minutes) and Eastern Airways (18.6 minutes) also feature on the list.

Under EU rules, passengers can claim compensation for delays of more than three hours, depending on the circumstances.

Delays in 2017 have largely been blamed on the poor weather conditions experienced across the country over the autumn and winter. Wizz Air also claimed airport infrastructure, airspace congestion and timetable restrictions also led to late-running services.
