TAM Airlines is expecting its flights within the Brazilian domestic market to increase by at least 15% in 2011, driven by both business and leisure travellers.
According to the airline, passengers in Brazil are swapping buses for flights, especially on longer journeys.
Líbano Barroso, TAM’s CEO, said: “We believe that much of the growth in the coming years will come from middle class Brazilians that will fly for the first time.”
To cope with the increased demand, the Brazilian carrier will increase its fleet by seven aircraft: two Airbus A330s, two A321s, and three A319s.
TAM also plans to grow its international market by 10% in 2011, with the launch of increased frequencies and new destinations.
