British Airways (BA) has successfully won a new Guinness World Records title, after it hosted the world’s highest stand-up comedy gig.
The Smile High show raised some £100,000 for Red Nose Day, as part of BA’s partnership with Comic Relief.
Comedians Dara O Briain, Jack Whitehall and Jon Richardson took part in the event, performing for 180 passengers on a dedicated flight from Heathrow.
Jack Whitehall joked: “I was looking forward to today - after all it’s the only gig where people can’t walk out. If you want to heckle you’ll have to press the call button.”
BA’s A321 took off from T5, then flew over the UK for two and a half hours.
Since BA ended its affiliation with UNICEF in June 2010, the airline has raised more than £700,000 for Flying Start, its new charity partnership with Comic Relief.
BA pilot Brian Connolly, said it had been an “honour” to captain the flight: “I’m proud to be able to say that I’m a Guinness World Records holder, and of course member of the Smile High Club!”
