Austrian Airlines, the carrier plying the route twice daily (from Monday to Friday) with F70 jets, has announced it will abandon the service effective August 18.
The route, the first ever service to Vienna from LCY, was launched in November of last year.
But the route has underperformed, partly because the flight timings were less than ideal.
In a statement, Austrian Airlines blames ”the banking crisis” and the fact that ”the slots assigned to us could not be optimised for customer requirements.”
”That is why”, says Austrian, ”the demand trend had remained below expectations.”
Until August 15 (the last day of service) Austrian will continue to depart LCY at 1010 and 1955 with the inbound services from Vienna leaving at 0815 and 1755.
Service to Vienna out of Heathrow remain unchanged.
