American Airlines, the only major US carrier not to go into administration during the last decade, is engaged in an expansion policy across the north Atlantic that will see the introduction of two new routes next spring.
Beginning 29 October, 2007, American will start a new service between Stansted and JFK ” however, the airline clearly feels that the market is strong enough to establish a second daily flight beginning 8 April, 2008.
On 2 May, next year, American will also commence flying daily non-stop services from both Milan and Barcelona to New York JFK.
American, a oneworld partner of British Airways, will fly all three new routes using two-class (business and economy) Boeing 767-300 aircraft with 221 seats, including 30 of the yet-to-be introduced Next Generation business class lie-flat modules.
Designed to give passengers more comfort, flexibility and privacy, American's new business class features the fully motorised lie-flat seats in a 2+2+2 configuration, a personal in-flight entertainment device with audio and video on demand.
"These new routes further demonstrate American's commitment to New York as an important international gateway," said American's senior vice-president international, Craig Kreeger.
"These new services will benefit customers throughout Europe wishing to travel to New York or to the many destinations across the Americas and Caribbean that we serve from our new JFK terminal."
American already operates transatlantic services to New York JFK from Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Brussels, Rome and Zurich.
