Virgin’s on board allotment
Virgin Atlantic is growing fresh herbs and vegetables for Upper Class passengers.
The onboard trial will see a vegetable patch take up part of the galley on all aircraft.
If successful, all passengers could be enjoying freshly picked tomatoes at 32,000 feet sometime inthe future.
Simon Soni, head of in-flight services, said: “it’s a logical next step for five star air travel. With it being such a simple concept, the sky’s the limit!”
To guarantee the trial’s success, all Upper Class cabin crew will be attending a one-day horticultural lesson at the Royal Horticultural Society.
Urchin Airways – world’s first child-only airline
A new airline has decided to capitalise on business travellers’ demand for adult-only flights, according to online flight search site Skyscanner.
Urchin Airways will only fly children up to the age of 16. The airline’s maiden flight left London this morning, en route to New York.
Cabin crew, who will be dressed as clowns, will be supplemented by qualified nannies, who will ensure the safety and comfort of the children during the flight.
Gareth Williams, Skyscanner CEO, said the airline has already seen huge interest on the skyscanner site: “There is already PetAirways, an airline just for pets, so why not have the same thing for children?
“Many parents find it stressful trying to keep their offspring in check while receiving scowls from childless passengers, and muttered criticism of their parenting skills.”
To keep the children entertained, activities such as egg-and-spoon races will be held along the aisle and targets woven into seating upholstery for youngsters to “hone their seat kicking skills”.
Whereas on regular flights children are scolded for making noise, screaming will be encouraged in “Who can scream loudest?” challenges.
Easyjet’s royal honeymoon stint
Budget carrier Easyjet will fly newly wed couple royal Kate and William to Scotland for their honeymoon.
The airline said the couple had chosen to spend the first days of their honeymoon in Scotland, as it is where they originally met and spent the first years of their courtship
Easyjet said the Mr and Mrs Wales had paid £23.99 each for their flight, departing from London Gatwick to Edinburgh on April 30.
Paul Moore, Easyjet’s communications director, said: “The Queen was the first Royal to fly with easyJet last year and we’re thrilled that the newly-weds are following in her footsteps.
“It’s also good to see that the cost-conscious Royal couple will be spending just £23.99 each way on their easyJet flight to Edinburgh for their honeymoon.”
