British Airways has delayed its 17.00 Heathrow-Cairo flight while it assesses the increasingly volatile situation in Egypt.
BA’s flight is due to arrive in the Egyptian capital at 23.40, but a BA spokesman said it was reviewing the situation and added that the flight would not depart on time.
Mass demonstrations, particularly in Cairo, have led to a curfew being imposed in the capital and in Alexandria and the port of Suez. The Foreign Office has advised travellers not to go out in central Cairo and to avoid political gatherings.
Egyptair’s 22.30 Heathrow-Cairo flight was scheduled to leave on time. The third carrier on the route, Bmi, flies daily to Cairo. However, unlike BA, the aircraft and its crew return the same day. Bmi’s flight has now left Cairo, but it is uncertain whether the airline will fly there tomorrow.
“We are awaiting the FCO advice,” said a spokeswoman.
