Japan Airlines (JAL) and Finnair are asking members of their loyalty programmes to donate miles towards relief work in Japan.
JAL is supporting the Central Community Chest of Japan, by contributing 7,500 yen for every 7.500 miles donated.
Japan-based members of JAL’s Mileage Bank scheme can make donations via JAL’s website (www.jal.co.jp/en/shien), while overseas-registered members will need to contact their regional Mileage Bank Centre.
Finnair Plus members can donate their points to the Japanese Red Cross at this address: https://pointshop.finnair.com/index.php?cPath=95_260&language=en
A donation of 3,000 Plus points will provide a blanket and water canister or five kilos of tinned food, while 10,000 points will get 10,000 kilos of rice to a tsunami victim.
Kati Ihamäki Finnair’s vice president of sustainable development, said: “The tragic events in Northeast Japan are in our thoughts. We feel deep sorrow and sympathy for those affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
“Supporting the aid work is a simple and effective way of helping the victims of the disaster in Japan.”
