City Star Airlines has ceased all operations from its base at Aberdeen Airport ”until further notice”, with the loss of 55 jobs.
The small carrier used four aircraft on routes to Alesund, Bergen, Oslo, Stavanger and Kristiansund in Norway.
All passengers with reservations should contact their credit card company or relevant booking agent.
Last November an accident at Aberdeen ” when a set of mobile passenger steps was driven into one of the carrier”s aircraft ” meant the suspension of the Alesund route.
”In the aftermath of the incident at Aberdeen Airport on 25 November 2007 we suffered the immediate loss of an aircraft which required us to take emergency measures to secure continued operation,” said City Star Airlines managing director, Runar Fossadal Arnason.
”Unfortunately the incident has had a major knock-on effect and we have simply not been able to recover from this.”
Parent company City Star Holdings has plans to begin a transatlantic service from Aberdeen to Houston, Texas with a separate subsidiary named City Star Executive.
A spokeswoman told ABTN these are ”still in place” and proposed for autumn this year.
