AirAsia has placed a firm order for an additional 25 A320s to bring the carrier”s total orders for that particular aircraft up to 175 ” making it the largest airline customer for the A320 in the world.
The agreement was made at the Langkawi Airshow by Datuk Tony Fernandes, group chief executive officer of AirAsia, and Jon Leahy, Airbus chief operating officer-customers.
”This purchase demonstrates our commitment to enhance AirAsia”s position on our networks by incorporating the most modern and efficient aircraft in the market,” said Group CEO of AirAsia, Datuk Tony Fernandes.
”The additional aircraft will be used to add frequency across the route network and introduce new routes.”
According to Airbus, the latest cabin is quieter and more spacious, with larger overhead stowing lockers.
The A320 also offers the lowest operating costs of any single-aisle aircraft.
”With its unbeatable economics and enormous passenger appeal, I am confident that the large A320 fleet is destined to propel AirAsia to the forefront of industry in the years ahead,” said Leahy.
More than 5,500 Airbus A320 have been sold globally, making it the world”s best-selling commercial jetliner.
