Air France has announced that three pilot unions called for a further four days of strike action in early May, claiming they are ‘ignoring’ the staff consultation launched yesterday.
Members of the union will stage walk-outs on 3, 4, 7 and 8 May, bringing the total number of strike days to 15. The dates coincide with planned strikes by French rail staff.
They announced the action on the same day the airline’s chairman Jean-Marc Janaillac opened a staff vote on a new pay deal.
Air France claims that by launching further strike action, union members are “choosing to put the company’s economic situation even more at risk” and could be damaging customers’ trust in the airline.
The carrier calls the latest announcement “incomprehensible” and claims it shows unions’ ‘contempt’ for employees’ opinions.
The consultation on a deal proposed last week is open until 4 May.
Janaillac commented: “I would once again like to apologise to all our customers affected by these strikes... I have complete faith in the desire of Air France staff to put an end to this destructive situation for our airline.”
