Target for 2011 after expected 2008-9 loss
Air France KLM, one of the world's largest carriers, today (April 15) confirmed plans to shed between 2,500-3,000 jobs by 2011.
The move comes after the airline predicted an operating loss of €200m for the year ending March 31, 2009.
It said it also expects to make a loss in 2009-10.
The announcement also comes a week after the airline said traffic had slumped by 9.4% over the last 12 months.
Reuters reported a spokeswoman for the carrier as both confirming the job cuts and saying that it would not renew employees' short term contracts or replace retiring workers.
She said it hoped to avoid compulsory lay offs.
AF KLM has already cut 2,400 jobs in the past year from its 63,500 workforce.
