A possible buyer for Virgin has been ruled out, after Air Asia said it has no interest in making a bid for the airline.
The Sunday Times reported Air Asia chief Tony Fernandes had an interest in buying a stake in Virgin, but this has been flatly denied by Air Asia bosses, according to reports from a number of Asian publications.
Singapore Airlines has previously said it is open to selling its 49% share in Virgin Atlantic.
The remaining 51% owned by Sir Richard Branson may also be up for grabs, after Virgin confirmed it had received “a number of lines of enquiry” since it appointed Deutsche Bank to assess its future.
Virgin called in the bank in November, following formal approval of the merger between British Airways and Iberia, of which Branson had long been a vocal opponent.
Other airlines reported to have an interest in Virgin include American airline Delta and at least one un-named Gulf carrier.
