ANA to debut new first and business class on London route

By Molly Dyson / 11 July 2019 / Contact Reporter
Business Travel News on X

All Nippon Airways (ANA) has revealed the new first and business-class seats that will debut on its redesigned Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on the Tokyo Haneda-London route from 2 August.

Dubbed The Suite (first class) and The Room (business class, pictured above), the new cabin products are the result of five years of development and collaboration between Japanese architect Kengo Kuma and British designer Acumen.

ANA will roll out 12 of the redesigned 777s, which will feature eight first class seats, 64 in business class, 24 in premium economy and 116 in economy.

The Suite – inspired by luxury Japanese hotels, according to ANA – offers new features such as privacy doors, a 43-inch 4K monitor for in-flight entertainment and a universal PC and USB port. Seats also have a movable partition that can be adjusted on request when two people are travelling together.

Meanwhile, the Room also offers privacy doors for the first time in an ANA business class seat, which can be adjusted if passengers wish to dine together or hold a meeting during their flight. The airline claims the new design is the largest business class environment in commercial aviation at double the width of previous seats. The cabin is laid out in a 1-2-1 configuration, meaning each seat has direct aisle access.

Premium economy and economy seats feature new upholstery and touch screen monitors, as well as adjustable headrests. Similar upgrades were recently installed on ANA’s B787-10 aircraft.

In addition, the B777-300ER has been redesigned with a new self-service bar counter with a monitor and mini-fridge, along with a new entrance area.

Hideki Kunugi, EVP of ANA, said: “Our partnerships with Mr Kuma and Acumen illustrate that ANA has sought out the input of the most influential voices in the design community for these innovative new cabin designs. In 2010, we were the first in Japan to introduce the full-flat seat with all aisle access and in order for ANA to continue to lead and set the global standard for comfort and convenience, we knew that it would be necessary to integrate the latest insights from design professional as we sought to redesign the flight experience and elevate every aspect of travel for our passengers.”
