Asiana Airlines is the latest carrier to sign up for the Airbus superjumbo.
The South Korean airline has made a firm order for six aircraft, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2014.
Yoon Young-Doo, Asiana’s president and CEO, said the future acquisition supports the airline’s policy to operate one of the most modern and environmentally-friendly fleets in the world.
"The significantly reduced operating costs and fuel efficiencies afforded by the aircraft will enable us to enhance our productivity and reduce our carbon footprint,” he said.
Asiana will use the A380 aircraft on “key routes” to Europe and the US.
The A380 typically seats 525 passengers in a three-class layout, although Asiana will confirm its plans for the configuration closer to the time.
Following Asiana’s announcement, Airbus said that total firm orders for the aircraft stand at 240 from 18 customers worldwide.
