Dating back to 1848 The Old Waverley Hotel, classically Scottish, situated on Princes Street opposite the railway station of the same name, has embarked on a ”3m ($5.8m) refurbishment programme.
”Old Waverley Hotel has been a key part in Edinburgh”s history for nearly 160 years, it was fundamental to ensure that any work did the hotel justice,” commented hotel manager, Leon Kiteley.
The seven-floor structure was built to celebrate the then-newfangled railroads and remains one of Edinburgh”s oldest hotels. The property opened as a temperance hotel, a daring enterprise especially at a time when every transaction both in business and social life was bound up with drinking customs. Originally known as Cranston”s Temperance Hotel it formally changed its name in 1876.
The property has 85 rooms, all with broadband, and overlooks the Scott Monument, with views across Edinburgh Castle.
