Budget hotel chain Travelodge
has opened seven hotels today, taking its total portfolio of operational hotels to 592 across the UK, Ireland and Spain.
The new properties are as follows:
- The 130-room Travelodge Plus St Albans, the 12th of the
group’s ‘budget chic’ brand and located on the city’s high street;
- The 81-room Bristol Avonmouth, in Avonmouth
Severnside, and the 90-room Bristol Emersons Green, close to Bristol & Bath
Science Park and Emerald Business Park;
- Boston Travelodge, a 56-room property in the Lincolnshire town’s Quadrant development;
- Two Oxfordshire hotels, the Faringdon Travelodge, a 74-room hotel featuring the
company’s “premium economy” SuperRooms concept and the 62-room Witney Travelodge, close to the Royal Air Force Brize Norton Airbase;
- Poole North Travelodge, an 81-room property near the Fleets
Corner Business Park.
The hotels represent an investment
of £70 million and have created nearly 150 new jobs, the group said.
Craig Bonnar, Travelodge chief executive,
said: “We are delighted to [extend] our UK hotel network by officially
opening seven new hotels in one day and taking the Travelodge brand to four new
markets. These seven new properties not only extend our UK network to 578
hotels in the UK but also offer even more great value choice to business and leisure
customers whilst playing a pivotal role in supporting local economies.”
The group, which entered a company voluntary arrangement after insolvency last year, says it expects to open 17 hotels this year.
