EasyJet flights to and from Portugal are set to be disrupted by a five-day strike by the airline’s cabin crew from Friday (2 October) to Tuesday (6 October).
But a planned stoppage by easyJet’s France-based pilots on 1-2 October has been cancelled after the carrier reached a preliminary agreement with pilots’ union SNPL.
In Portugal, the SNPVAC union, which represents easyJet’s cabin crew, said that its strike action would affect the carrier’s operations at Lisbon, Porto and Faro airports, with up to 500 scheduled flights impacted by the walkout over the five days.
The action is being taken due to an ongoing dispute with easyJet about pay, rostering and working conditions for cabin crew in Portugal.
SNPVAC has also called another five-day stoppage for its easyJet members from 19 to 23 December, which could affect pre-Christmas travel plans.
In France, SNPL had been due to hold two days of strikes at the start of October as part of an ongoing dispute over rostering policies for easyJet’s French pilots.
SNPL said in a statement that talks with easyJet had resumed following the union’s filing of strike notices in early September. These negotiations had now resulted in an agreement and led to the cancellation of the strikes on 1-2 October. Although the deal remains subject to approval from easyJet’s pilots.
Business travel to and from Italy could see some disruption caused by a nationwide four-hour air traffic controller strike on Wednesday (30 September), which will impact 33 airports in the country.
Italy’s rail services are also likely to be disrupted by a general strike across the country on Friday (2 October), with train staff set to walk out between 11am and 2pm. This stoppage is expected to impact Trenitalia’s regional and long-distance services, as well as rail links to regional airports.
