SILVERSEA, the super luxury cruise company, is to add a fifth six-star ship from 2008, an all balcony and 28,000 tons, a slightly updated version of its 382 - passenger Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper.
Better use of space will see an increase to around the 420 - guest capacity.
In London last week Albert Peter, chief executive, said that the Silversea concept of an all inclusive package (including service, wines and Champagne) really does work and noted that advance bookings for 2006 are 30% up on this time last year. With the introduction of the new vessel, the Italian-owned Fort Lauderdale-based line will undertake a three - month major refit of its first ship, the 1994 introduced Silver Cloud.
Silversea says that the average age of passengers in its market area is falling dramatically and is now 49. Upwards of 35% of guests are non-US, with Australia a particularly strong market. For the 2006 programme Silversea does not have a preferred air carrier and lists prices for the ship part of the holiday only. However a ”Package Programme” is available including flights, hotels and all the ground handling. You can see Silver Wind in the Pool of London on the ABTN website. Expect Silversea ships to moored in the Thames for the 2012 Olympics.
