GATWICK & HEATHROW are to experiment with Yotel, a completely new concept which takes the phrase ”rest room” into another league. Created by the same people behind the Yo Sushi restaurant brand Yotel is a basic accommodation idea offering privacy right in the middle of very busy airports. Yotel hopes its cabins, each measuring just ten square metres, will appeal to delayed and transfer passengers as well as those needing an overnight stay before an early check-in, or arriving on overnight flights. The modules come complete with a double bed, en suite bathroom with monsoon showerhead, free broadband Internet access, satellite TV and movie channels, and an iPod plug-in point. The plan is to charge ”40 for four hours or overnight ”80, substantially less then the adjoining four-star hotels at each of the airports. No mini bar and no room service and check-out will be automated. The company plans to assemble 50 cabins at Gatwick's South Terminal and 40 at Heathrow Terminal 4 on the level between the arrivals and departures areas. Target date is summer 2006.
