Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) says it is making plans for a hotel adjacent to Terminal 2 and is seeking investors to design, build and operate it.
The airport has received planning permission for a 402-bedroom hotel between the terminal and the adjacent multi-storey car park, but the authorisation will expire in March 2019 if it cannot secure an investor.
DAA says the winning bidder will have to apply for new planning permission and therefore may decide on a different layout and bedroom configuration to the designs drawn up by the airport.
A public tender process is now open to Irish and international companies or consortiums, with the airport seeking an “up-scale, four-star plus hotel with a global brand”.
Vincent Harrison, managing director of Dublin airport, commented: “This is a unique opportunity to build and operate a new terminal-linked hotel at one of Ireland’s premier locations.
“Dublin airport and the greater Dublin area both require additional hotel beds and this hotel development will bring significant economic benefits both to the local Fingal area and to the greater Dublin region.”
The airport saw a record 29.6 million passengers last year and is welcoming 14 new routes and four additional airlines this summer, including long-haul services to Beijing, Hong Kong, Montreal, Philadelphia and Seattle.
