Delta Air Lines has signed an order for 100 Boeing 737-900ER aircraft, worth $8.5 billion.
The new aircraft will be used to replace some of the planes in Delta’s domestic fleet.
Ed Bastian, Delta’s president, said the 737-900ER is the “perfect airplane to replace the older, less efficient airplanes in our single-aisle fleet”.
Fuel efficiency is a vital factor in the airline’s future financial performance, said Bastian.
“The 737-900ER will provide us a reliable airplane with the lowest fuel burn in our domestic fleet."
All of the new aircraft will feature Boeing’s Sky Interior, with improved lighting, luggage bins and cabin space.
