DUBLIN AIRPORT has a new four-star hotel, the 204-room air conditioned Crown Plaza, officially opened by the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern last week. In fact it is an off-airport hotel, a regular minibus schedule connecting in about 10 minutes. Dublin itself is about five miles, 15/20 minutes away but if you have not been in recent times do allow for the fact that new one-way streets have confused locals and taxi drivers alike. The new property features an executive floor and 12 purpose built conference rooms with a maximum capacity of 240 delegates. Behind the scenes the technology is controlled by Cisco Systems who have not only supplied the very visible IP (Internet Protocol ” get used to this term ” it”s the next buzz word and does away with old fashioned telephone and computer cabling) communications system but literally controls virtually everything in the hotel. Even the lifts (elevators) have small TFT screens which at a moment”s notice can change from the current restaurant menu typically to a TV news flash. . There is an excellent business centre and a small gym. The Crown Plaza Dublin Airport is set in 160 acres of parkland.
