Airbnb for Work has reported that the number of business trips booked through the platform has tripled in the last year.
The home-sharing platform, formerly known as Airbnb for Business, also says the number of companies booking through it has more than doubled to nearly 700,000 companies worldwide.
Airbnb claims more than 275,000 of those companies are “directly engaged” with the firm to manage their travel.
In the UK alone, Airbnb says more than 43,000 companies have had employees sign up and book through Airbnb for Work.
The company’s data shows an increase in the amount of bleisure travel, with more than 30 per cent of bookings in the past year including at least one weekend night.
Trips booked through the platform are also getting shorter, with the average stay lasting five nights as opposed to six a year ago. However, there has been an increase in long-stays of 14 days or longer, with reasons ranging from long business trips to off-site training and project work.
In addition, nearly 60 per cent of bookings had more than one guest – with nearly 40 per cent including three or more. Airbnb says this shows teams are increasingly opting to travel and stay together.
The top ten destinations booked through Airbnb for Work are London, Paris, Los Angeles, New York, South Bay (California), Toronto, San Francisco, Boston, Sydney and Washington, DC.
Airbnb for Work has also announced it will release a new feature in the coming weeks that will help travel managers streamline how their employees search and book accommodation through the platform. The solution includes a customisable search that can account for company policies and use cases.
