Edwardian Hotels London has announced that its “most ambitious project to date”, The Londoner, will open its doors in April 2021.
The 350-room, 16-storey hotel – half of which is underground in London’s deepest hotel basement – sits on Leicester Square on the site of the former Odeon West End cinema.
The hotel, developed at a cost of £300 million, will include a tower penthouse with panoramic views of London, two private screening rooms, six concept F&B outlets including a Japanese lounge bar with a rooftop terrace and fire pit.
The Londoner will also have an 864-person capacity ballroom, seven private meeting rooms and a gym and wellness centre with a swimming pool.
The design of the hotel is by Yabu Pushelberg, the company behind the Four Seasons hotel in downtown Manhattan, with architecture by Woods Bagot.
The property is being developed to exceed the BREEAM Excellent category for environmental and sustainable performance and has secured a £175 million Green Loan from HSBC UK, which it says is a first for the hospitality sector.
Charles Oak, hotel director of The Londoner, said, “We are looking forward to opening our doors in the spring and welcoming guests from all over to their new home from home, in the heart of the capital’s most vibrant neighbourhood.”
Edwardian Hotels London owns and operates The May Fair and The Edwardian Manchester as well as ten Radisson Blu Edwardian hotels across London.
