Travelport has set up a new Galileo operations centre in Bahrain to serve the local travel trade.
The travel business service provider, which also owns the Worldspan GDS and GTA, a hotel and ground services operation, said the move followed the ending of its agreement with Middle East Computer Services.
Its new operation, based in Manama, is now fully owned by Travelport.
Ghulam Saleh Al Balooshi, Travelport's newly-appointed director for the lower Gulf region, will oversee the new operation.
He is a Bahraini national and GDS veteran with more than 35 years experience in the travel industry.
He said: "As a result of this new distribution structure, we are well positioned to respond to the growing needs of the travel trade and nurture our long-term presence in Bahrain."
Travelport already has a presence in the Middle East with a direct distribution network for Galileo-connected travel agents in place across the UAE, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.
