Hilton Worldwide is urging customers to check credit card statements after confirming that cardholder payment details have been stolen.
The hotel chain said it has taken action to “eradicate” unauthorised malware that targeted payment information in some point-of-sale systems.
As a precautionary measure, Hilton has advised customers to review and monitor their statements if they used a payment card at a Hilton Worldwide hotel over a seventeen-week period, from 18 November to 5 December, 2014 and 21 April to 27 July, 2015.
Hilton said malware had managed to access names, card numbers, security codes and expiration dates, but no addresses or PIN numbers were obtained.
In a statement the group said it “sincerely regrets” any inconvenience this has caused guests and it has launched an investigation and further strengthened its systems.
The attack comes days after Starwood Hotels announced 54 of its properties across America had been hit by malware.
