Dedicated boarding for cardholders
Air France has begun operational trials of its new smartboarding automated boarding system.
Flying Blue customers travelling between Paris and Amsterdam will be asked to carry a special card which employs biometric encrypted fingerprints, radio frequency identification and thermal printing technology.
Cardholders can use a "dedicated portal" to board at any time, rather than queue for the final passport check.
The smartboarding card also allows passengers to choose a boarding time. The dedicated boarding kiosk checks identity and boarding details.
Air France said the new system, developed together with Citizengate, is a "world first."
"For the last few years, Air France has embarked on a process of trial and innovation to contribute to designing the air transport of the future," said Patrick Roux, vp marketing Air France KLM.
"Everything that can make air travel simpler and easier for our customers has become the focus."
