Security specialist International SOS has unveiled a “refreshed” version of its LGBTQ+ module to mark this year’s Pride Month during June.
The company said its module has been designed with advice from LGBTQ+ rights charity Stonewall UK. It includes practical ways for organisations to promote safety for their LGBTQ+ travellers.
The refreshed LGBTQ+ module covers destination-specific societal attitudes, biases and challenges which could create potential risks to LGBTQ+ employees.
It also covers immigration and airport security regulations, local laws and practices regarding the importing of certain medications, as well as guidance on how to access “safe support” when on the road.
Laurent Fourier, CEO of health and security subscription services at International SOS, said: “Discrimination and violence remain critical issues for the LGBTQ+ community. The risks faced by the LGBTQ+ workforce may vary based on the destination to which they travel and may be influenced by factors, including the legal status and the levels of social tolerance.
“Organisations should be aware that the travel experience can be very different for their LGBTQ+ workforce and must adequately prepare its employees for foreseeable health and travel security risks.”
Tips for corporates in this area include encouraging pre-trip research and preparation, educating employees on safety precautions, ensuring travellers understand local immigration policies and airport security, recommending safe accommodation and communicating LGBTQ+ inclusive policies and emergency contacts.
